Assessment of knowledge on mushroom production technology among Women SHGs.

Problem diagnosed: SHGs members usually participate in training programmes without any specific reasons having low level of knowledge on scientific technology of mushroom production imparted by the KVK and other line departments.

Intervention: A total of 22 training cum demonstrations were imparted among farmers and SHG members on mushroom cultivation under KVK Anjaw during 2021-2023. To evaluate knowledge level of the SHG members before and after the trainings were imparted with regards to mushroom production technology the OFT was conducted.

Result: The study concluded the transformative potential of mushroom cultivation as a source of livelihood opportunity for women SHG in the district while highlighting the critical gaps in knowledge, infrastructure and market access. The socio-economic profile of the respondents revealed that a significant proportion of respondents are middle-aged group with moderate levels of education and farming experience. The examination of pre and post training knowledge assessment through Wilcoxon signed rank test showed a statistical significant improvement in knowledge among the SHG members post training which validates the effectiveness of training programme conducted to enhance understanding and skill in mushroom cultivation. The unavailability of quality mushroom and essential materials, high transportation cost and limited storage facilities and market price fluctuation were identified as major constraints encountered by the SHG members that hinder production mushroom.
