Nursery Raising
Nursery may be raised near the main field to overcome the problems of transportation and reduce the time lag. Nursery is grown on raised beds of 15 cm height. The beds should be 1.5 m wide and of convenient length. Nursery bed is prepared in this manner:
1st layer: 1 inch thick well decomposed FYM
2nd layer: 1 ½ inch soil
3rd layer: 1 inch thick well decomposed FYM
4th layer: 2 ½ inch soil

Land Preparation
Field is dry ploughed, watered and puddled. Standing water should not be allowed in the field. Beds and channels are prepared. A channel of 30 cm is left after every 1.5-2 m width depending upon soil type.
×
Spacing
25x25 cm
×
Transplanting
A metal sheet is pushed 4-5” below the soil to lift the 8-10 days old seedlings along with the soil. Transplant one seedling per hill. Do not transplant seedlings at more than 2.5 cm depth.
×
Weed Management
Weeders are used at every 10-12 days interval to turn the weed in to the soil. Start using the weeder, when the weeds are small, i.e; on 10th day after transplantation
×
Water Management
Irrigation is given before the soil develops hairline cracks. Water should not allow stagnating at least during vegetative growth stage. From P.I. to maturity one inch of water should be maintained in the field
×
Pest Management
Chemical pesticides and herbicides are not used. Wider spacing and organic manures result in healthy growth. Pest can be managed by use of organic concoctions either as a preventive measure or as and when needed. Amrit Jalam is one such concoction
